Horrified Viewers Say ‘Deeply Disturbing’ Movie Is Even More Messed Up Than Saltburn

Poor Things, the newest Emma Stone movie, is being called 'more messed up than Saltburn' by viewers.

Viewers have been horrified by a ‘deeply disturbing’ movie that many consider even more messed up than Saltburn.

Saltburn was a viral sensation in late 2023 and early 2024, becoming one of the most talked about films ever.

In particular, viewers were left speechless by the bathtub scene – which led to TikToks and jokes.

Now, another film has the internet fascinated and disgusted in equal measure – including one particularly controversial scene…

Based on a 1992 novel by Alasdair Gray, the 2023 title, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, stars Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, and Jerrod Carmichael.

Its official synopsis reads: “Brought back to life by an unorthodox scientist, a young woman runs off with a lawyer on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, she grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.”

The movie gained critical acclaim, scoring a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score and praise from critics.

Calum Cooper wrote for Cinerama Film: “Destined to go down as one of 2023’s best and most memorable films.”

Similarly, June Butler penned in Film Ireland Magazine: “It ranks among my all-time personal favorites and is one of the wittiest and funniest films to hit cinema screens in years.”

ABC Radio‘s Matt Neal said it’s ‘proof that there is room for weirdly wonderful cinema in this world.’

While critics have been sharing their praise for Poor Things, viewers online have declared it to be ‘disturbing.’

One writes on X, formerly known as Twitter: “People who found Saltburn weird wouldn’t last two minutes watching Poor Things.”

Another agrees: “Poor Things is so disturbing, went in feeling happy, left feeling deeply disturbed.”

A third adds: “Imagine if all the normies who thought Saltburn was the most disturbing, f***ed up, h***iest movie ever watched Poor Things. Like Poor Things actually deserves Saltburn‘s reputation.”

While a fourth concurs: “Everyone, go see Poor Things, It’s like a weird fever dream that’s kind of messed up but also hilarious!”

Like Saltburn, one scene in particular is shocking Poor Things viewers. (Warning: spoiler alert).

The movie follows a young woman, named Bella Baxter (Stone), who begins life with an adult body but an infant brain.

This leads Baxter to experience life and develop unlike others and in one sequence, she learns touching herself feels very good.

Unaware of social expectations, she grabs an apple from the dinner table and uses it to attempt to reach a climax.

This understandably shocks those in her presence, who demand she stop immediately.
